Work from Home

In this day and age, more and more employees are quitting their jobs to work from home. In November of 2021 over 4 million American employees voluntarily quit their jobs. Why? Unquestionably, one of the reasons is that people no longer wanted to work in close proximity to other people, and they wanted to spend more time with their families. Therefore, it wasn’t the pay, it was the time. In our busy lives, there is more time spent at work than at home during waking hours.

If you look around your town, as I have in mine, you will see signs in storefronts, “Now Hiring”, “We need help”, “Work for us, Higher wages”. Sad to say but, I think the times are ripe for a major shutdown of the “Mom and Pop store”. Without a doubt, people just don’t want to work in the public eye. I am sure this will change in the future. But for now…

The whole purpose of this page. Work from home.

Work From Home. Girl working from Home

Are you an at-home mom that just needs some extra cash? Or, if you do work, do you want to stay home with the kids and work also? Are you just sick and tired of the commute to your office? Also, are you just tired of people in your face all the time? Are you retired but need to have some extra cash in your pocket? Similarly, Do your kids need jobs? Do your neighbors need jobs? We may have the answer that you are looking for.

We have a lot of companies that are looking to employ people that want to work from their homes. Employers such as Home Depot, ADT Alarms, Intuit, Turbo Tax, Princess Cruise Lines, and many, many more.

These jobs are available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. However, there are some states that do not allow this type of work. This is a 1099 job, not a W-2 job. Some states that do not allow 1099 jobs are, California, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon, and Wisconsin.

Age ranges are 18-100 as long as you can use a computer and a headset.

What is needed if I get one of these jobs?

  • You will need to have a quiet place in your home away from distractions, such as a bedroom or office that has a door that can be closed to cut off noises from other rooms such as TV’s, pets and children.
  • A computer (desktop or laptop)capable of loading programs. A ethernet port for internet. A USB port for headset, and a wired Keyboard and mouse. If it’s wired you will need 2 USB ports. You will need enough storage space to load several programs. See the full System and Equipment Policy Link below, and go with their recomindations.
  • A high speed internet connection that can plug into your computer such as Cable DSL or FiOS (Fiber Optic Service). Wi-Fi is not allowed. Satelitte, Microwave, or Wi-Fi Hotspot or any type of Aircard are not allowed. VPN’s are not allowed.
  • A USB Headset that has a micropone built into it. A USB headset Can be bought from Amazon or local stores.
  • Some companies may require an iOS or Android Based phone or tablet with a working camera.
  • A Gmail account
  • Depending on the employer, other items may be needed, such as a paper shreader.
  • See the full System and Equipment Policy here

I am not sure but it might happen. A representative from the company may ask to see your office to see if you are complying with the rules. So I am sure they will say, “No TV in your office”

Am I trained, and is it paid?

All companies will train you. All training is paid, however, there may be an orientation, vetting, or nesting period to get things installed on the computer that is NOT PAID. This Orientation period may be up to 10-12 business days to install programs. You may have issues installing the programs on your computer, so, you will have to ask your instructor for help. You will log into a webpage to ask your instructor for help. The instructor may have 30+ students to help. The instructor will be helping each student one at a time during this period. Also, The instructor will be dedicated to you and you only. That means the instructor may not be able to get to you right away. Thus, the time frame for orientation.

There are 2 phases to start with:

Phase 1. This is the orientation and setup time period to get the programs installed on your computer. Therefore, this phase is NOT PAID.

Phase 2. This is the classroom training period. Training could be 2 weeks – 4 weeks – 8 weeks depending on the company. This training is paid and you will go on the payroll and start to get paid. You will receive your first paycheck after 2 weeks.

What are the hours that I can work from this work from home job?

The Company that hires you is the Company that trains you. So, if you complete the class by passing all the training you will receive a “Statement of Work” which is an agreement between you from the employer. Also, in this agreement will be what the company expects out of you, and what you can expect from the company. The company will expect you to work a set amount of “Intervals”. An interval is broken down into half hours.

So, if the company wants you to work 100 intervals in a 2 week period then you have 100 intervals/1/2 hours. If they want you to work at least 50 hours in that 2 weeks, you can work 20 hours 1 week and 30 hours the next week. Each company has its own expectations from its employees. So, if you cannot work these hours don’t apply for the job. If you get the job but cannot work the intervals the company has the right to lower your wages or release you from the company. If you are released from the company it will go on your work history. So, once again if you cannot work the hours don’t apply for the job. Just so you know if you are released you may not get hired by any other employer.

You don’t have to work for just one company.

So, you can work for two separate companies. You can work for Home Depot for a week and a Cruiseline next week. The only issue here is training. We do not suggest that you attend two pieces of training at the same time. Even the most experienced employees have had major issues while attending two different pieces of training at the same time. Get acclimated to one job and if you decide on another employer then attend another training. Be aware that most employers may be open for business during your next training period.

What are the hours the company works? Every company is different. As an example, 1 Company may be open strictly M-F 9am-5pm closed S&S, another company can be open every day S-S 9am-9pm, yet others may be open 24/7/365 it just depends on the company.

How do I get paid?

You will be considered a 1099 employee(derived from the 1099 tax form). What is a 1099 employee? In general, A 1099 employee is a contractor who works for the company. This means the company does not have to worry about payroll taxes for those employees. What does that mean for you? Uncle Sam still expects to get his money one way or another. To summarize, you will be expected to pay the taxes on your own or have your tax man or woman help you out with this. It’s not just the federal taxes it’s also State taxes, Social Security, and Medicare taxes. The nice thing is that you can deduct your office supplies, like your computer, headset, mouse, etc.

Does a 1099 employee get other benefits? The law doesn’t specifically say that the employer has to offer any other benefits but they can if they want. Items such as Health, vacation, or other benefits are strictly up to the employer and will be in your “Statement of work” contract. You can also think of it this way: Vacation time: If you are contracted to work 100 intervals in two weeks, then you can work 50 hours the first week and take the next week off.
