As of May 2021, almost all states have phone safety laws that include “Hands-Free”. More people are killed in traffic accidents because of DWI(DUI) than any other single reason. Texting while driving is the second. In California, any person is prohibited from driving a motor vehicle while holding and operating a phone or electronic communication device. Drivers that are 18 and older may dictate, send or listen to text-based messages if they’re using voice-activated, hands-free devices. In Georgia, all drivers younger than 18 were covered for eight years (2010-2018) by an all phone ban. Georgia created a handheld ban for all drivers, effective July 1, 2018.
There are no laws against using hands-free devices considering phone safety.
